Unite Variants – Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 30, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how Unite Variants (“we”, “us”, or “the App”) collects, uses, and protects information when merchants install and use the App on their Shopify store.

1. Who this policy covers

Unite Variants is a Shopify application for merchants. It is used by store owners and staff in Shopify Admin and on the online storefront to group related products and display them as swatches.

This policy applies to merchants who install the App. It does not cover how merchants collect data from their own customers on their Shopify stores.

2. Information we collect

2.1 Shop and authentication data

When you install the App, we store information needed to run it:

  • Shop domain (for example, your-store.myshopify.com)
  • OAuth session / access token required to call the Shopify Admin API
  • Limited staff account details provided by Shopify during authentication (such as name or email), when available

2.2 Product and group data

To provide the App’s features, we access and may store references to:

  • Product IDs, titles, handles, images, prices, and availability
  • Product groups you create (names, option labels, styles, swatch settings, and linked products)
  • App settings (badges, appearance, page visibility preferences)
  • Theme information needed to enable the storefront embed

Product groups and storefront settings are primarily stored in your Shopify shop (metaobjects and metafields). We may also keep a local index of group metadata for performance and recovery.

2.3 Customer personal data

Unite Variants does not collect, store, or process Shopify customer personal data (such as customer names, email addresses, mailing addresses, or order history) for its own purposes. Storefront swatches use product catalog data only.

3. How we use information

We use the information above only to:

  • Authenticate your shop and keep the App installed
  • Create, update, import, export, and display product groups and swatches
  • Apply appearance and badge settings on your storefront
  • Provide support and troubleshoot issues you report
  • Comply with Shopify requirements and applicable legal obligations

We do not sell merchant or shop data.

4. Data storage and processors

App session data and a local group index are stored in our application database hosted with our infrastructure provider (currently Railway). Catalog data also lives in Shopify’s systems through the Shopify Admin API, metaobjects, and metafields.

Shopify acts as the platform and processor for data accessed through its APIs. Our hosting provider processes data only as necessary to operate the App.

5. Data sharing

We do not share your shop data with third parties except:

  • Shopify, as required to operate an embedded Shopify app
  • Infrastructure providers needed to host and operate the App
  • When required by law or necessary to protect our legal rights

6. Data retention and deletion

  • While the App is installed, we retain session data and product group index data necessary for the App to function.
  • After you uninstall the App, Shopify sends a shop/redact webhook (typically within 48 hours). We then delete local session records and product group index data associated with your shop.
  • Data stored within your Shopify store (such as metaobjects and metafields) remains under your Shopify account unless you remove it or Shopify deletes it according to its policies.

7. GDPR and privacy law requests

We respond to Shopify’s required compliance webhooks:

  • customers/data_request — We do not store customer personal data, so there is no customer data to return beyond confirmation.
  • customers/redact — We do not store customer personal data, so there is no customer data to erase.
  • shop/redact — We delete local data associated with the shop as described above.

8. Security

We use industry-standard security practices appropriate for a Shopify application, including encrypted HTTPS connections, authenticated Shopify Admin API access, and restricted access to production systems. However, no method of electronic transmission or storage is completely secure.

9. Children’s privacy

The App is intended for business use by Shopify merchants and is not directed to children under the age of 16.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, the “Last updated” date at the top of this page will be revised. Continued use of the App after any changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Privacy Policy.
